He's a red-robed Bodhidharma (J. Bodaidaruma), the 5th century Indian Buddhist priest who brought Zen meditation to China. The lack of limbs may represent his legendary loss of them after years of continuous Zen meditation.
赤い服を着ている菩提達磨（ぼだいだるま）、５世紀の中国に座禅を導入したインドの僧の像です。腕も脚もないのは数年の座禅続けて手足の失う伝説を表すかもしれません。
